The Constitution Amendments

President Hosni Mubarak has submitted to the Parliament the amendments for our constitution. The Government's press is hailing this move as a breakthrough in Democracy for Egypt and trumpeting the amendments as a leap forward for Egypt's social and economic welfare.
The opposition is criticizing some of the amendments like the new Terrorism article, article 76 that was amended just one year ago.
The real problem in Egypt is not a constitution amendment or a problem with the law environment which is very disintegrated anyway, the real problem is that this regime does not have any respect to the constitution or any other laws and the judicial system has no independence.
Don't we have since 1971 (last major amendment of our constitution) in section 3 of our constitution concerning the freedom,rights and obligations of the citizens that personal freedoms and rights, homes, communications is sacred and doesn't this section organizes how the Government can arrest and prosecute its citizens. Do you believe that any of this is respected in Egypt? Of course not. When the interior Minister goes on TV and says that all communications of citizens is recorded and who ever is afraid of that has to refrain from using his mobile and Mashy he is still in his position! When we have more than 20,000 (the right number is unknown and the ministry of interior is dealing with this number as a national security issue) citizens who are in jails without prosecution for as long as 15 years.

Don't we have an arsenal of laws against corruption and misuse of power and it applied depending on loyalty to the regime and we are listed the 76th on the Transparency International list.

Don't we have traffic laws that nobody is respecting?
And the funny thing is with all the amendments that Mubarak presented to the Parliament, article 77 that states that our President can rule as long as he is alive is not included and by the way even if this article was amended it wouldn't have affected the current President (79 years old) who stated that he will rule Egypt as long as his heart is beating!

التعديلات الدستورية التى أقترحها السيد الرئيس مؤخرا لن تعبر بنا الى المستقبل و لن ننطلق نحو الديموقراطية لسبب بسيط هو أن القضاء فى مصر ليس مستقلا و سيادة القانون معطلة. ترسانة القوانين المصرية و على رأسها الدستور المصرى أبو القوانين لا تحترم و تنفذ على حسب الهوى و الخاطرو مزاج النظام الحاكم.

الم ينص الدستور الحالى فى بابه الثالث المتعلق بالحريات و الحقوق و الواجبات على تحريم الأعتداء على الحريات الخاصة بالمواطنين و مساكنهم و مراسلاتهم و اتصالاتهم و تنظم كيفية احتجازهم أو توجيه الأتهامات لهم و ألا تتفق معى أن ما جاء بهذا الباب تم تعطيله من قبل النظام و الأن يسعى هذا النظام الى اضافة المدة 179 و التى سوف تحتوى على تشريع لقانون لمواجهة الأرهاب حتى يستمر التعطيل بنص الدستور بدلا من القوانين الأستثنائية سيئة السمعة.

الم ينص الدستور الحالى عاى أشتراكية الدولة و على ضرورة الحفاظ على القطاع العام و لم يحترم هذا النص أيضا و تم التحول الى أقتصاد السوق و تم التخلص من معظم القطاع العام.

أليس فى مصر قانون يحارب الفساد و الغلاء و ينظم المرور و مع ذلك غرقنا فى الفساد و استفحل الغلاء و عدم احترام قانون المرور فحدث و لا حرج!

أرجوكم و أتوسل اليكم بحق هذه الأيام المباركة أن تكفوا عن الأصلاح يرحمكم و يرحمنى الله!!!

How much longer will Egypt's president, Hosni Mubarak, and his military generals do whatever they want with Egypt?

14 Egyptians where killed by riot police in the 3rd round of the parliamentary elections. Their only crime is that they believed the TV ads that asked them to go and cast their votes for the parliament of the future.

The five-year jail sentence on bogus charges handed down to democracy activist Ayman Nour, the only presidential candidate who stood a chance to defeat the old autocrat Mubarak.
Egyptian riot police officers rushed into a crowd of unarmed Sudanese migrants early Friday morning, killing at least 25 people, including small children, after the group refused to leave a public park it had occupied for three months hoping to press United Nations officials to relocate them.

And finally the ad campaign that amnesty International is running in the US which is self explanatory:

Status Quo Addicts...

Tata Tata....This is how Egypt is moving backwards... When I started my blog I decided to name it Egyptian hopes and I wanted to see the ray of light at the end of the tunnel...But browsing what I wrote so far and what is happening in Egypt in the last few months, I found out that the ray that I was seeing is a mirage and we are in total darkness and the only light that I am hoping for will come from a bloody revolution or a cruise missle!!!
Am I a pissimistic person? Not really, I have always considered myself an optimistic and happy person but the Status Quo addicts are glued to power and corruption. I was also shocked to see that 15 thousands angry persons where dispatched in Alexandria because of a stupid shamefull play compared to 70 persons in the Kefaya (Enough) movement march in Alexandria a few months ago!

Sharm El Sheikh Great Fence

These pictures where taken today October the 22nd, and it clearly shows the base of the fence without the iron bars (compare with the picture of Al Wafd below) which proves that the Governor is lying as he removed the bars in the last days to prove that this is not a fence and that this is only a barrier to prevent camels from passing the highway...

Finally, the Sharm El Sheikh Wall is in the news...I published this log in my photo log photoofanegyptian on 10/10/2005 and I sent it to many newspapers and friends. It was published today in Al Wafd in its front page.

For those who do not read Arabic, the narrow minded Governor of South Sinai decided to build a Wall (20 Km long, 1.5 m high) around Sharm to protect it from terrorists!!! Which will have a devastating effect on the locals!

My second post in photoofanegyptian was about the entrance of the Sharm El Sheikh Central Hospital which was written on it "Beware the entrance might collapse" and luckily it was published in Al Masry Al Youm last Friday in El Skoot Mamnou3!!!

Planning for a revolution

The "One Man Show" of Egyptians politics is coming to an end soon! The regime is insisting on a dramatic end. On the surface oppressed Egypt appears to be calm, the sails of this regime is thought to be well tuned to intercept the winds of change that are blowing from every direction, the Tsunami wave is approaching but with a closer look underneath the surface the hurricane is imminent.

After 24 years of anti-biotic and aspirin, the body (or the corps) is not responding to the same medications and the Doctors of the regime are gambling that it will works and the rationale behind their strategy that it always worked in the past and it will work in the future. They do not want to get a right diagnosis, they cannot believe that the body is viably sick.

In his last speech Mubarak said:" Because of this victory (October's victory) we (as in the Egyptian people) have moved from getting back our occupied land to the independence of our political life and to our national economy.. We have put in place the necessary institutional and legal framework for a democratic base.. and we built an advanced legal and information infrastructure that is required to any advanced economy..."!!

Last February when Mubarak stated that he is going to change article 76, Egyptians thought that the new imported drug will be effective and can relief a bit the symptoms of the sickness to soon find out that this is the same homegrown reform (New vision) that has no effectiveness.

When Mubarak stated in his election campaign that the "newer vision" will be implemented if Egyptians voted for him, some thought that the newer drug is the real deal but soon Egyptians figured out that it is again the same old tranquilizers!

The "newer vision" calls for nominating Youssef Wally, Kamal El Shazly, Ibrahim Soleiman, Fathy Sorour to the Parliament or in other words saying "TOZ Feekom" to Egyptians, adopting Gamal's new vision of extreme fanatic capitalism, implementing the same strategy of status quo and the deadly medicine of stabilizing the corps.

This is a recipe for a chaotic revolution and not a medicine to get Egyptians out the intensive care unit.

Egyptians are warming up for a revolution and the Regime is putting the final touches of their plan to start this revolution.

Our Global Response

Why prices of everything are going up in Egypt? Why there is forgery in our elections? Why corruption is rampant in Egypt? How come that there is 20000 detainees without a trial in Egyptians jails? Why there are poor Egyptians who are eating from garbage cans? Why traffic accidents mortal rates are high? Why only 23% of the registered voters voted in the last elections? Why, why, why...

The packaged answer to all these questions posed by the opposition to the Egyptian Government is: it is a Global phenomenon. Prices are going up everywhere on the continent and Egypt is not an exception but they forget to tell us that the salaries in other countries are being adjusted to the rate of inflation.

The elections are forged everywhere in the world and just remember the Bush – Gore elections in 2000 but they do not tell us that this is a very limited incident and major steps where taken to avoid this in the future etc…

One of the problems of our Government and the so called intellectuals of our Government are saying part of the answer that appeals to them (Noss Lisan) and they think that Egyptians are stupid and that they believe them, no wonder the low turnout of the Presedential elections.

Don’t you like it when Fathy Sorour compares our Democracy and our constitution with the French constitution? Don’t you laugh when you hear Kamal El Shazly talks about fighting corruption?

How about the Mubarak’s last speech about Democracy a few days ago and how the next parliamentary elections will be clean and transparent while the Emergency law still intact, political prisoners are still abducted, voters lists are still in a mess!

And my Global response to what is happening in Egypt is that the end of Dictators is a Global phenomenon!!!

I find it ridicules that some Egyptians believe that we are starting a new era of Democracy because we have some independent newspapers and we gave the same time to candidates in the Public (reads NDP) TV. Am I pessimistic? No, I believe that change is coming but not with the “new vision” of Gimmy and Co. but from the Egyptians…

Egypt Vs Japan

Egypt and Japan are poles apart - geographically, historically, culturally and politically. But lately, there has been a common point of reference: Both held elections that, different as their internal dynamics were, point toward changes that could affect both countries internally and, by extension, the regions they live in.

For a half-century, Egypt has been a military dictatorship in civilian garb. The ruling National Democratic Party is a tool of Hosni Mubarak's personal power, backed by a repressive security service. But this year, instead of the usual referendum to endorse his permanent rule, Mubarak, under heavy pressure from the US and internal movements for Change, let others challenge his bid for a fifth six-year term (5 * 6 = 30 years). The result was hardly democracy in action: The regime decided who could compete, how the campaign would be run and, most crucial, how the votes would be counted. Mubarak got 88.5 percent of the vote in an election whose low turnout - 23 percent officaill results - reflected Egyptians' understanding of what was afoot.

Still, there was sharp criticism by rival candidates of Mubarak's failure to raise living standards. One candidate - Ayman Nour - has become a popular national figure, and the neo liberals of the NDP (Gamal and Friends Inc.) felt compelled to resort to U.S.-style campaigning, complete with "I feel your pain" rhetoric. Egyptians got a glimpse of what democratic politics is about, and the regime may find it difficult to return to business as usual, as if nothing new had happened.

In Japan - paradoxically both a democracy and a virtual one-party state for a half-century - the ruling Liberal Democratic Party won as usual, but with a difference. Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi cast off Japan's trademark consensus politics and campaigned against the reactionary barons of his own party, who had blocked his effort to privatize the state postal service, the world's largest financial institution that controls $3 trillion in assets used to dispense patronage to a range of interest groups. Voters embraced a reformist agenda that may go further than they realize in attacking a change-resistant system.

Whether Koizumi will be able to implement his plans, even with the strong majority the LDP won in the lower house, is uncertain. He has only a year left before party rules force him to step down, and retrograde forces are sure to resist. But he sees what many Japanese refuse to - that the country faces a demographic crisis, with an aging population and a low birth rate that could severely weaken the economy and make it even more difficult for Japan to manage its growing rivalry with China.

Another difference between the elections in Egypt and Japan is that Mubarak, despite his power, played it safe by making only cosmetic changes. Koizumi, by contrast, took what many saw as a reckless gamble by calling an early vote, attacking a segment of his own party and sticking to a single, controversial message - and won. Neither tactic guarantees future success. But Koizumi's is a lesson in hardball democracy that Egyptians would do well to study for the uncertain times ahead.

لية البهدلة والذل والعبودية والمظاليم فالإحتياطى مرمية
من غير تهمه ولا تحقيق و لا محكمة ولا حتى قضية
مشاكل بالهبل ومحاكم زحمة وقضايا الرول ألفين وتلتمية
وإكسب ياحبيبى القضيةبس قابلنى فى العليا ولا الإدارية
ياخبر إسود ومهبب المتهمين ماتو إتخنأو فى العربية
فين المسئول؟ مين يتحاكم ؟ هس ياواد دى تبع الداخلية
وده أتوبيس فى الريَاح وجرار بالعيال إنقلب عالزراعية
مفقود إلى مسافر عالصحراوى ومولود إلى وصل الناحية التانية
والناس إنحرقت فى القطر والحكومه قالت دى الجزرة مهريه
دى تلامه وقله إحساس لا دى جريمة وهروب مالمسئولية

وتسأل مين محمد على؟ يقولك ده إلى بنى الحلمية
وعارف يابنى حقوقك؟ وإية فايده المجالس المحلية؟
طب عارف يابنى واجبك؟ وإزاى تفيد الحياه النيابية ؟
يقولك معلش ونبى ياخال سيبنى ألحق التمسلية

وفى الراديو يقولك مبارك مين غيره فى الفتره الجاية
وكفاية كفاية يآآوح ويقول الدستور مش محتاج لعناية
وكفاية كفاية كفاية طيب يسرورغير76 ونعمل التمثلية
وترشيحات وأحزاب مغمورة نازلة فى الحملة الإنتخابية
ونور وجمعة وشلتوت ومش فاكر مين فى المسرحية
ولجنة إنتخابات متنأية وطبعا فوق المساءلة القانونية
ونسمح بالتزوير ولا لأه ورأيك إية فى الرقابة الدولية
ولية تخاف يا عمرو تقلق والإشراف للهيئات القضائية
وإية يعنى لما يبعـــــدو من القضاه ألف وخمسمية
لازم برضة تقول رأيك وتروح اللجنة الإنتخابية
ومبارك نمرة واحد وكشوف بأسماء ناس متوفية
ويوم سبعه وعدو سُمعة و الغلابه بكباب ولوتارية
ولو نص الناس راحو كنا قلنا صحيحه وشرعية

طيب نعمل إية والحاله تفوَر الدم وتجيب السكتة القلبية

The Next Scenario!!!

The elections are gone and the usual "suspect" candidate won with a landslide victory...The people of Egypt are waiting from the New President to fullfill his promises and Egyptians do not have hopes that the promises will be fullfilled due to 24 years experience with Mubarak.
I can assure you that all these promises will be fullfilled and even surpassed and here is the plan:

After a year the administration armed with the national newspapers and the state owned TV will start the "See we told you" campaign, with emphasis on Mubarak opening "new" factories and interviews with common people saying that they can't believe that cash inflows and the propaganda continues untill the promises are fullfilled in the newspapers and TV. Remember the Toshka project, did you hear anything about it in Mubarak's Campaign???

The Doctors of Al Sultan will go on Al Jazeera and other Satelite channels to try to convince the intellectuals with unbelievable growth rates, that GDP skyrocketting and the high standard of living for Egyptians.

Sheikh Al Azhar and Pope Shenuda III will start a special prayer to thank god for his generosity for keeping Mubarak's in power and thank him for this prosperity that Egyptians are experiencing for the first time in history.

Sayed Rashed, the head of the General Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU) will go on to say that he loves Mubarak more than his family and more even more than himself and he will go on saying that 7 Million workers do not know how to spend their salaries.

The vast majority of people agree that they do not feel all these changes and that there is something wrong with their brains!!!

Why we Hate Mubarak?

This question is always posted these days in response to the demonstrations of Kefaya (Enough) or the criticism of the Regime of Mubarak in the opposition or independent Newspapers. The National (Govermentaly or Official) newspapers portrait the Movement of Kefaya, opposition, or independent and opposition newspapers as outlaws that exceeded all the red tape!!!

They repeatdly pose another question: In the last 24 years of Mubarak's rule you do not see any thing positive? and the answer is in the question and it is the same answer to both questions?

The 10 reasons why Egyptians hate Mubarak 2005?

1.The idea of one man in power for that long is a catastrophie for Egypt and any other nation (ie. Libya) and there are't any respectable nation on earth that would allow that.

2. Mubarak has ruled Egypt for the Last 24 years without end under the Emergency law.

3. The Succession of Mubarak's Son Gamal as the next president Despite repeated, emphatic, and official assertions to the contrary, all indications point to Gamal being groomed to succeed his father.

4. The political prisoners in Jails held without a trial that varies in numbers between 10000 political prisoners and 20000 political prisoners.

5. The corruption that is widespread in Egypt and the corrupted Government officials that Mubarak is turning a blind eye on (Youssef Wally, Safwat El Sheriff to name a few) and even reports on the corruption of his son Gamal Mubarak and his company MedInvest Ltd that bought some of Egypt's foreign Loans.

6. The mappets that we have inMagliss El Sha'ab (the congress) and Magliss El Shoura'a (the Senate) and the soap opera of the last constitution article 76 where phone calls from the president changed the opinions of the congressmen 360 degrees.

7. The interferenc of the state security in all aspects of life from the appointment of teaching assistants in the Universities to the appointment of Ministers and Governors and the crackdown on peacefull demonstrations.

8.The missuse of Sheikh Al Azhar and the Pope of the Copts for his support in the soap opera of the election without bearing in mind the catastophic consequences.

9. The Economic situation is putting a lot of pressure on Egyptians with prices skyrocketting, salaries on halt (or minmal raises, el min7a ya rayess) and unemployment desease is spreding.

10. The repeated lies of Mubarak and his government lost any new look its credibility...

The above is just some of the reasons that why Egyptians hate Mubarak and why that the consequences of the above will lead to a revolution in Egypt that started allready on the internet and in small in numbers demonstartion around Egypt but big in value.

I will publish a detailes articles on each of the above points.

What can we the people of Egypt do:

1. Join the demonstrations also there is a big price that we can pay for doing that but freedom is not granted from dictatorships, it is earned...

2. Voice your opinions in blogs and in any form you can.

3. Make blacklists of the "Doctors of Al Sultan", all the Technocrats that are supporting Mubaraks and voicing half of the truth to the people like Dr. Abdel Monim Said, Dr. Moustafa Al Fikky, Dr. Wahid Abdel Meguid and others... At least we will prevent others from joining.

4. Boycott the National (Kawmiaya) newspapers like Al Ahram, Akhbar, Al Gomhoriya and Rosa and if you miss the bullshit that this written in them you can always check them on the internet.

Hopefully Egypt is on the verge of change and I hope that the change will be peacefull!!!
